The SOMOS Eleventh Annual Taos Storytelling Festival will be held on Saturday, October 16 at the TCA, Taos Center for the Arts, 133 Paseo del Pueblo Norte, Taos. Once again we’re offering an impressive lineup of tellers spinning their tales in concerts, children stories, a workshop, a story swap and in visits to our local schools.
The New Mexico State Library and Centennial planners are accepting nominations for four honorary positions associated with the commemoration of New Mexico’s hundred years of statehood – Poet, Storyteller, Author and Children’s Author.
Nominations may be submitted by individual New Mexico residents or representatives of organizations in New Mexico and may include self-nominations. The deadline for submissions is June 23, 2010. The individuals selected will be announced at a ceremony in the fall of 2010. Those interested in nominating can visit www.nmstatelibrary.org and click on Centennial Nominations (in the left-side menu) for complete guidelines. 7/15 (Thursday) Jonis Agee, novelist from Nebraska; John Dufresne, novelist from Florida – both are on the faculty of the Taos Summer Writers Conference this year. Both have published extensively!
7/30 Melanie Sumner, novelist from Georgia has a new book just published, “Ghost of Milagro Creek” this fictionalized tale of two star crossed lovers takes place in Taos; Davida Singer, poet from NYC – she teaches at Hunter College and School of Visual Arts, in New York City. She has two volumes of poetry published.
8/6 Natalie Goldberg and Eddie Lewis – fiction
8/13 Summer Wood, novelist will read from her new book “Wrecker,” and James Nave – poetry and short stories
8/20 Tom Ireland – short stories; Tania Casselle from Ranchos de Taos– short stories and travel writing

Robert Wilder is the author of two critically acclaimed books of essays: Tales From The Teachers’ Lounge and Daddy Needs a Drink, both of which have been optioned for television and film. He has published essays in Newsweek, Details, Salon, Parenting, Creative Nonfiction, Working Mother and elsewhere. He has been a commentator for NPR’s Morning Edition and On Point and other national and regional radio programs including the Daddy Needs a Drink Minute which airs weekly on KBAC FM. Wilder’s column, also titled “Daddy Needs A Drink,” is printed monthly in the Santa Fe Reporter. He was awarded the 2009 Innovations in Reading Prize by the National Book Foundation.
Diana Joseph is the author of the story collection Happy or Otherwise(Carnegie Mellon UP 2003) and the memoir I’m Sorry You Feel That Way: The Astonishing but True Story of a Daughter, Sister, Slut, Wife, Mother and Friend to Man and Dog. Her work has been listed in Best American Stories, Best American Essays, and the Pushcart Prize and has appeared in Best Sex Writing, Country Living, and Marie Claire. She is the winner of the 2010 Great Lakes Colleges Association New Writers Award for Creative Nonfiction.
She teaches in the MFA program at Minnesota State University-Mankato.
